On our blog we have already presented several international standards and ISO standards on food safety and quality management. The international ISO standard 17025, which specifies the requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, is an important extension of this subject area.
Compliance with the ISO standard increases the data quality and the efficiency of test laboratories. At the same time, the standard provides a good basis for establishing and adhering to other quality systems such as GMP or ISO 9001.
The basis of the ISO 17025 standard
The standard is divided into two main parts: management requirements and technical requirements. The management requirements are largely based on the ISO 9001 standard and describe the operation and effectiveness of the quality management system, while the technical requirements include the competence of the employees, test methods or equipment. In addition, the standard includes further guidelines on topics such as training courses, document steering, audit management, validation and internal auditors.
